Overview

The HPM580 is a smart pressure switch and controller developed for industrial systems that require local pressure indication, multiple relay control points and a continuous 4–20mA pressure signal. It combines measurement, display, output and control functions in one enclosure.

A silicon pressure sensing element detects the applied pressure, while the integrated signal-processing circuit converts the sensor signal for the display, analog output and relay switching functions. The selectable measuring range extends from vacuum pressure at -100 kPa...0 to positive-pressure ranges from 0.01 MPa up to 60 MPa.

The controller can be configured with one to four pressure control points. This makes it suitable for applications where different pressure thresholds are needed for alarms, pump sequencing, interlocks or process-state indication.

Application

Hydropower Systems

The HPM580 can provide multiple pressure thresholds for lubrication, cooling-water, hydraulic-control or auxiliary systems. The analog signal can transmit the measured value while relay points provide separate alarm or control states.

Petroleum Equipment

Potential applications include pressure monitoring on compatible oil-handling, pumping and hydraulic equipment. Hazardous-area use depends on the HPM580’s product-specific approval matching the site’s area classification.

Chemical Processing

The controller can be considered for compatible chemical process lines where multiple pressure thresholds are required. Wetted-material compatibility and the applicable explosion-protection documents must be reviewed before selection.

Machinery and Hydraulic Equipment

Four control points can support staged operation, warning thresholds and high- or low-pressure interlocks in presses, hydraulic power units and other machinery. Final motor, valve or solenoid control should be handled through correctly rated external circuits.

Pump and Compressor Control

One pressure signal can be used to establish different start, stop, warning and shutdown thresholds. The system designer must coordinate the relay logic with the motor controller and include suitable protection against short cycling, pressure surge and loss of sensor signal.

FAQ

Are the four HPM580 relay outputs dry contacts?

The public datasheet identifies relay outputs but does not define the contact form, isolation or complete electrical rating. Do not assume they are potential-free dry contacts. Request the wiring diagram and relay specification for the ordered configuration.

Can the HPM580 operate from both 24VDC and 220VAC?

No dual-voltage capability is stated. The ordering information presents 24VDC and 220VAC as separate options. Apply only the supply shown on the instrument nameplate and its wiring documentation.

Can the HPM580 relays start a motor directly?

Do not connect a motor until the relay contact rating and load category have been confirmed. Pumps and compressors normally require a properly rated contactor or motor controller, with the HPM580 relay used as a control input.

Can the HPM580 be used as the only safety shutdown device?

The published HPM580 documents do not state a SIL rating or safety-instrumented-function approval. A safety shutdown loop must be designed and verified under the applicable functional-safety requirements and should not rely on an unsupported product assumption.

Can the pressure setpoints be changed while the hazardous area is live?

Follow the product manual, certificate conditions and site permit procedure. Do not open an explosion-protection enclosure or expose electrical connections in a live hazardous atmosphere unless the approved protection method and work procedure explicitly allow it.
